Our organic quinoa grows in the Andean highlands of Peru, as well as on the northern and southern coast of the country. Organic quinoa is low in calories, gluten-free, high in protein content, and is also a rich source of fiber and phosphorus. Additionally, it is high in magnesium, iron, and calcium.
It has a light texture and flavor–similar to that of walnut or almond. People oftentimes comment on its slightly bitter taste, and this is because quinoa is covered in saponins (which comes from the word “soap”). The trick to eliminating the bitter taste is to place the quinoa in a colander and rinse under running water before boiling.
Organic quinoa is known to reduce the risk of diseases such as high cholesterol and cardiovascular problems. Additionally, it aids in lowering blood sugar and provides powerful antioxidants. Organic quinoa turns out to be a healthy cereal with high protein content.
Usually, organic quinoa requires boiling before consumption. It is considered a popular “superfood,” and a common substitute for rice. It is also known to be very tasty in desserts, drinks, salads, and vegetables.
The year we started producing superfoods, we founded Happy Little Faces, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for impoverished children in our local community of Lima, Peru. In 2010, we built a kindergarten from scratch, providing free education, lunches, and extra-curricular activities for local children who would otherwise not have these opportunities.
We are proud to say that our initiative has grown successfully in Lima. We thank you for being a large part of our growth as an organization, and for helping the local communities of Peru.
